So a very warm welcome and thank you for seeking me out.

Hello! I’m Jessica and I am Restorative Exercise Specialist (RES-CPT) and a PhD-wielding evolutionary biologist.

Said no one on the internet ever. Until now.

I guess I have some explaining to do.

While being an evolutionary biologist and a personal trainer specializing in restorative exercise may sound like a strange partnership, going…

…is not such big stretch (cough).

Our bodies are amazing! They are the most under appreciated wonder of our individual worlds; from how the functional complexity of our entire body is encoded in microscopic strands of DNA to every physiological and biochemical reaction that occurs in the space of a single breath. They are unique, dynamic, highly complex and incredibly adaptable. They are truly extraordinary.

And yet many of us – myself included – don’t have bodies that function as well as approximately 200,000 years of modern human (Homo sapiens) evolution and all our modern knowledge of human biology should have fine tuned by now. Yet despite my education and scientific training, despite doing all things that are currently recommended as being essential for being fit and well – my own health issues (muscle injuries, knee surgeries, ongoing pelvic floor problems, and a fertility ending hysterectomy at the age of 39) made it very clear that my body wasn’t working the way it was supposed to.

Something was missing and I wanted to know what and why.

Then I found Restorative Exercise and the Nutritious MovementTM Center and with it came an entirely different approach to human health. One that was grounded in science, put the functioning of our bodies into an evolutionary framework (you can see the personal appeal) and added the critical but generally ignored context – that of loads and physical force – to the understanding of the functioning of the human body.

It turns out that gravity matters. Why? Because the force is always with you. 😉

I cannot wait share some of this information with you and help you, as I am helping myself, on your own journey towards an optimally functioning (amazing!) body. I’ll try to keep the wise cracks in check but my personal philosophy is that health without humour is not healthy.
